Pagis, Dan
(1930-86)
   Israeli scholar and poet. He was born in Bukovina, Romania. In his youth he was imprisoned by the Nazis. He settled in Israel in 1947 and later became professor of medieval Hebrew literature at the Hebrew University. He published studies of Hebrew literature; an annotated anthology of Hebrew love poetry of the 10th to 18th centuries from Spain, Italy, Turkey and the Yemen; and his own poetry.
